Pubs & Restaurants

Location What's There Comments Date
Coventry Canal Basin Old Windmill, 22 Spon Street Elizabethan pub in a medieval street that survived the blitz - interesting pub, good beer. April 2004 (CA)
Coventry Canal Basin Town Hall Tavern, Bond Street Friendly pub just off the main circuit but handy for the canal basin. Good beers and good sandwiches (the owner also owns a bakery) April 2004 (CA)
Coventry Canal Basin India Cottage, Corporation Street / Bishop Street junction We struggled to find any decent restaurants within walking distance of the canal. We ended up in the India Cottage which turned out to be fine and was probably the closest to the canal anyway (Indian food - but you probably guessed that !) April 2004 (CA)
Bridge 11, Hawkesbury Junction Greyhound Deservedly popular pub with boaters - cracking atmosphere and great view of the junction. Excellent choice of ales and food is good (serves food all day I think). April 2004 (CA)
Bridge 69, Tamworth Gate Inn Food was good value and the menu varied. April 2004 (CW)
Shopping & Facilities
Coventry Canal Basin Sainsbury's plus usual city centre shops and stores Within 10 minutes walk April 2004 (CA)
Good & Bad Moorings
Coventry Canal Basin City centre (shops, pubs, cathedral) within 10 minutes walk. Main line railway station is 20 minutes walk. Great quiet place to moor for a night or two with old warehouses and clock tower. The side with the shops is also quiet although there's a night club on this side so may be noisier at weekends. There's room for about 20 boats in the basin - late arrivals may have to look for a friendly boat to breast up with. April 2004 (CA)
Bridge 11, Hawkesbury Junction Pub, sanitary station, busy canal junction, old engine house. These moorings, alongside a green open space on the Coventry arm seem to be the quietest in the area and give the best chance to moor close to the junction. Boats tend to moor on water points so don't rely on getting water here. April 2004 (CA)
